Aecon and Norsk Kjernekraft aim to develop SMRs in Norway

Aecon and Norsk Kjernekraft have signed a strategic cooperation agreement to support the development of small modular reactors (SMRs) in Norway. The partnership will focus on the deployment of the BWRX-300 reactor. Together, the companies plan to create a roadmap covering feasibility studies, licensing processes, stakeholder engagement, and potential site identification for future SMR plants.

Norsk Kjernekraft has already identified around ten possible locations where environmental assessments may be carried out. The collaboration also aims to use Aecon’s experience from Canada’s Darlington SMR project to help guide the early development of nuclear power projects in Norway.
